Join Occupy NOLA to help resist criminalizing “hanging out” in Jackson Square.

Opponents of Mayor Landrieu’s push to close the Jackson Square Pedestrian Mall from 1am to 5am will meet 6pm Monday, Nov 19 in Jackson Square on Chartres Street just across from the St. Louis Cathedral. This is a gathering of the General Assembly of Jackson Square (and is not to be confused with Occupy NOLA’s General Assembly).

Since its creation in 1975 the Jackson Pedestrian Mall has been open 24 hours a day.  The Mayor is seeking an ordinance that would make it illegal for people to sit, stand, or hang out in the Jackson Square Pedestrian Mall from 1am to 5am.

The meeting on Monday will focus on building resistance to this attempt to criminalize “hanging out” on Jackson Square.

All who support public access to the Pedestrian Mall are encouraged to participate in this grass roots meeting.  This is a struggle that can be won.  Still, we must struggle to win.
