 First Occupy NOLA GA 2013

Greetings, friends!

We at Occupy NOLA hope you had a restful holiday season.

Tonight marks the first General Assembly of 2013. It will be held at 2735c Toulouse Street at Occupy The Stage at 7pm.

Below is a tentative agenda. Please come ready to add to the list!

Tentative Agenda (again please add to this):

  1. Report Backs from Working Groups
  2. Announcements
  3. Proposals
  4. Soapbox

The following current topics will be included:

  • Discussion of “Idle No More Gulf Coast” a group forming in solidarity with Idle No More. Idle No More is an ongoing protest movement originating among the Aboriginal peoples in Canada comprising the First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples and their non-Aboriginal supporters in Canada, and to a lesser extent, internationally. It has consisted of a number of political actions worldwide, inspired in part by the liquid diet (including soup) of Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence[1] and further coordinated via social media. A reaction to alleged abuses of indigenous treaty rights by the current federal government, the movement takes particular issue with the recent omnibus bill Bill C-45. • Discussion of NOLA Superbowl Clean Zone! You can read the entire zoning ordinance at the link below. “The City of New Orleans Clean Zone Ordinance Number 24,913, M.C.S. prohibits the following activity for Mobile Wireless Facilities (Unless sanctioned and authorized by the City of New Orleans and the National Football League): The erection or placement of mobile wireless communication facilities shall be prohibited except those sanctioned by the National Football League (NFL). A mobile wireless communication facility is defined as a structure, antenna or trailer that is temporary and portable in nature and used to provide or increase wireless cellular communication! The City of New Orleans Clean Zone Ordinance Number 24,913, M.C.S. prohibits the following activity for temporary structures (Unless sanctioned and authorized by the City of New Orleans and the National Football League): The construction, placement, occupation, or use of any temporary structure (including, but not limited to: temporary location of tents, canopies and air-supported, air-inflated, and tensioned membranes) shall be prohibited except those sanctioned and authorized by the City, the National Football League (NFL) or the Superintendent of Police for public safety purposes, and approved by the Superintendent of Fire. Only official NFL sponsors will be eligible to apply for temporary structure permits intended to be erected during January 28th through February 4th, 2013.” http://new.nola.gov/nola/media/One-Stop-Shop/SuperBowl/Permit-Code-Enforcement-Guide-City-of-New-Orleans.pdf
  • Occupy NOLA and 2013 – our goals, methods of outreach, focus, FOIA reports and what they mean for us, possible times for People’s Convention Working Group to meet.

We really look forward to meeting with the NOLA 99% at the first GA of 2013!

In Solidarity,

Occupy New Orleans (OccupyNOLA)
